What difference between Brother ink cartridges and Brother toner cartridge

An amateur dealing with Brother cartridges may easily get confused about the difference between an ink cartridge and the toner cartridge. The cartridge itself is a typical container that holds the ink or toner depending on the requirements. It is available in the market easily with multiple options from different manufacturers. Thus, it is crucial to do your homework on the world o cartridges before attempting to refill them.

The easiest to understand and the common difference between the ink and toner cartridges is that the ink cartridge is used in conventional and standard inkjet home printers while the toner cartridge is used in laser printers.

Inkjet printers require one cartridge devoted to the black ink and three other color cartridges, i.e., magenta, yellow, and cyan, or a single tri-color cartridge. Thus, it works dedicatedly to print using all these colors to get the closest matching clarity at all times. Thus, single tri-color cartridges are widely used in affordable inkjet printing.

Printer toner is a powder-based print medium that offers exceptional accuracy and control for efficient printing. It is made up of granulated plastics. This toner powder is collected and is then transferred to the paper using the electrostatic drum, which further melts the paper to get accurate prints. There are options in the four-cartridge configuration in the tone cartridges.

  • Ink cartridges
  • Ink
  • Refill tools
  • Refill manual
  • Blunt filling needles
  • Syringes
  • Scotch tape or sealing plugs
  • Paper towels or newspapers
  • Gloves
  • Eye protection and extra pair of clothes that may get stained during the process (optional)
  • Identify ink refill spots: You will start by finding the critical areas in the Brother printer, i.e., ink refill spot, ink outlet, and air vent. A white column in the center is the air vent, an ink outlet is present below the air vent, and the refill spot is directly opposite to the ink outlet.  Thus, it becomes easy to work with your Brother printer after knowing all about the crucial areas to use.
  • Create a refill hole: You may have to puncture the refill spot to create a refill hole. You will get a small tool in the refill kit to drill or widen the hole to make it accessible for use. The same tool can be used to pierce the cartridge shell, or you can use a knife/ screwdriver, etc.
  • Inject the Ink: After finding the ink refill spot, it is easy to start injecting the ink into your Brother ink printer. Fill the syringe with the ink and slowly inject it into the printer. You must slowly press the white column in the air vent to maintain proper ink flow. You further should stop while the ink starts leaking. Thus, you can stop and remove the syringe. You must take care of your hands and clothes in this step as all printer ink stains are permanent.
  • Clean and Seal: This is the final step that involves cleaning before you switch back to printing. You can use a paper towel and then can seal the hole. Scotch tape or a plug can be used to seal the hole.
  • Reinsert and print a test page: Once the cleaning and sealing process is done, all you need to do is reinsert the entire system. You can carefully place the things in their place to avoid any fitting issues. Once your printer is back as a compact unit, you can go for printing a test page. This test page printing ensures quality prints and ensures that the refilling is done properly.
